How to hide a pipe from the hood in the kitchen

In modern kitchens, the unwritten standard is the presence of a hood. Its role is to clean the surrounding air of substances formed during cooking. Thus, the hood provides a comfortable stay in the room. When installing this kitchen unit, you may encounter problems placing both the duct and the hood itself. To solve this issue, there are many options for masking the duct so that it does not spoil the interior.

Why hide the pipe from the hood

In total, 2 types of hoods are used - circulation and flow hoods. A characteristic feature of the circulation is that they allow air to pass through filters installed inside, which must be changed periodically. They are expensive and therefore buyers are more willing to choose a different type of kitchen appliance.

Flow hoods, being a fairly budget option, provide high efficiency in the processing of ambient air. It is they who are more often chosen by customers for whom saving is important. The peculiarity of this type of hoods is that they are connected directly to the ventilation through the duct. Due to the fact that the shaft itself, as a rule, is located at a considerable distance from the hood, there is a need to hide the sleeve, which will stretch along the wall. There are several ways to solve this problem.

REFERENCE! It is not enough to use the hood to completely clean the air. Be sure to ventilate the room 2 times a day.

Ways to hide the pipe from the hood

The exhaust sleeve, as a rule, has a large size, thereby affecting the aesthetics of the interior. It is difficult to install it so that it is not conspicuous and does not violate the design of the kitchen. In order to mask this element, the owners choose different methods.

Plastic box construction

Boxes have round, square or rectangular shapes.

The plastic version of the box has a number of advantages inherent only to it:

  • low price category;
  • long term of operation;
  • ease of installation and maintenance;
  • almost complete noiselessness;
  • hygiene.

Over time, the box will change color, but if the duct is correctly located behind the furniture, this aesthetic flaw will not play any role. This type of masking is optimal for close placement of the hood and ventilation shaft.

IMPORTANT! Most professionals recommend sealing joints with sealant to increase strength. But this can complicate the cleaning of the box from the inside, especially with a large number of bends. Therefore, it is not necessary to seal them if the structure is small in length and has additional support in the form of a cabinet roof or something else.

The plastic box is easily mounted even at home, assembling on the basis of the "bell-pipe" principle. A lot of docking elements will solve the problem of a large number of corners and obstacles in the kitchen. If necessary, you can manually adjust the pipes, because the plastic is easily sawn.

To fully assemble the box, you must have:

  • main pipes;
  • adapters;
  • knee;
  • connectors
  • anti-return valve;
  • grill.

With the help of the listed elements there will be no problems to assemble a structure with any length.

Masking under a suspended or suspended ceiling

Very often, when the question arises of masking the duct, installers recommend hiding the element under a suspended or suspended ceiling. The pipe, with this type of disguise, is not visible at all, but in case of damage, you will have to completely disassemble it. There is also a restriction on the minimum ceiling height. So, if the kitchen ceiling height is less than 2.6 m, then hide the box does not work.

Drywall construction

The most economical type of masking of the air duct is a duct assembled from plasterboard sheets. This material fits perfectly into any interior. This design does not have special difficulties during installation and does not require large cash costs.

Due to the peculiarities of the structure, it cannot play the role of an air duct; therefore, drywall serves as a decor covering the corrugation.

IMPORTANT! Drywall must be waterproof, so as not to collapse under the influence of a humid microclimate of the kitchen.

The main advantages of a drywall box are:

  • variety in the choice of form;
  • the possibility of choosing the final finish;
  • low cost.

How to close the corrugation from the hood in the kitchen, building a channel through the furniture

Another way to hide the corrugation is to embed it in the cavity of the wall cabinet. The advantage of this disguise method is the ability to preserve the original interior of the kitchen and increase the functionality of the furniture through the use of its free space. To achieve these goals, it is recommended to make custom-made furniture, so that the project already provides for the possibility of hiding corrugations. A plus will be the ability to easily dismantle and replace pipes if necessary.

To successfully install the hood and its duct into the cabinet, do the following:

  • build an aluminum valve to prevent air from venting into the room;
  • make a hole for it on the top of the cabinet, position the valve in this place, subsequently attaching with mounting glue;
  • remove the element of the kitchen set and in its bottom, using a jigsaw, cut a hole, focusing on the dimensions of the hood;
  • remove the shelves and cut holes in them for the air duct;
  • in the upper shelf, make a hole for the valve, leaving an allowance of 3 mm on each side;
  • lay the piece of furniture on the back wall and insert the corrugation;
  • Form the upper edge of the corrugation into a square in order to stick it into the hole;
  • cut the perforated edge of the corrugation along the edges and bend it;
  • reinstall the cabinet and insert the valve into the ventilation.

Finally, a hood is installed in the hole cut out at the bottom of the cabinet, fixing it with screws. The corrugation is put on the pipe and secured with a clamp.
