Gas stove connection

Since natural gas became available, and everyone appreciated its convenience and low cost, it has been widely used. To use gas for cooking, you need to purchase a gas stove and connect its system to the main gas pipeline. Of course, at first glance, such work seems very difficult, because it requires special skills and qualifications, and because of the specifics, there is also the danger of an accident, which can lead to sad consequences.

The simplest option is to call a gas service specialist or private organizations, who for a relatively small amount of money will carry out a complete installation with verification and registration of a household appliance. The cost of such services in Moscow starts from 870 rubles and reaches 1,500 in the case of installing built-in appliances. Disconnecting and dismantling the old stove, if any, is paid separately.

Thus, it is possible to entrust the connection to professionals, but there are situations when it is difficult. For example, the inhabitants of the apartment are absent at a time when the gas workers are planning to come and it is impossible to adjust to the time. Or you need to install a stove in a private house, which is located far from large settlements and the arrival of specialists needs to wait a very long time and it will cost more. Or a skilled person who is able to carry out simple technical work, it’s just a pity to spend extra money on something that he can figure out himself, having familiarized himself with the rules and safety precautions.

If for some reason you want to do an independent installation, then this article will help in this.

IMPORTANT! Many people think that only gas workers are entitled to install such equipment, and you will be punished for independent work. This is true, but only in part. Any person can connect the stove, not only in the private sector, but also in the apartment. However, you can start using it only after checking a specialist, who still needs to be called. In this case, you will not face a fine.

Gas Stove Installation Procedure

The first step is to prepare for work. Remove the new board from the carton and remove the wooden lining from below. Set aside removable parts, such as baking sheets, wire racks, so that they do not interfere. Install the legs, if necessary, align them with the height and floor level together in which the unit will stand. Follow the layout rules, which say that there should be gaps from the wall, between the stove and adjacent curbstones, at least 40 cm behind and 5 cm from the curbstones.

To accurately adjust the evenness of the burners relative to the floor and the correct installation of the legs, it is useful to use the building level. After all, when tilting the surface it will be inconvenient to cook and the oil will become unevenly distributed in the pan. If the legs are unregulated, in the case of an uneven floor, a piece of chipboard, wood or thick cardboard can be placed under the bottom.

According to the regulations, the gas hose should not be longer than 4 meters, and all exposed parts, including pipes and the hose, should be freely available. Consider this when choosing the location of a new stove or if you are going to redevelop the room.

For the first time before installation, even independent it is required to conclude an agreement for the maintenance and supply of gas with the appropriate service in your city. To do this, you will need to provide basic documents confirming the ownership of the apartment and equipment. In the same way, you will need it if you are the owner of a private house and decide to start using gas for the first time.

Necessary parts and tools:

  • special gas flexible sleeve or hose. It is usually not included in the equipment package and is bought at a store;
  • keys, and gas and adjustable 22 * 24;
  • ball valve suitable for interaction with gases of various pressures (if replacement is required or the diameters of the outlet connecting holes do not match);
  • a piece of wet cloth that needs to be plugged in the pipe, or another suitable cork (if you need to change the tap);
  • gasket (often comes with a stove included);
  • some sealant: FUM tape, plumbing thread;
  • additional household tools: a set of screwdrivers, a knife;
  • soap solution and brush to make new connections for leaks.

It is possible to connect a gas stove with your own hands, but certain rules must be observed.

How to connect the stove to the system

The hose you buy must be from a specialist store and in no case from a market or street tent. Do not buy water hoses that are not designed for this equipment and quickly fail. Sleeves for gas are usually marked with yellow marks, and for water - red and blue.

In Soviet-built houses, the connection of the stove with steel pipes was everywhere. They were replaced by flexible hoses, thanks to which today it is possible to independently install equipment in a short time using simple tools, as well as to freely move the plate taking into account the length of the hose, which is useful when re-planning or buying built-in appliances. However, in rare cases, a metal pipe is also installed.

Types of gas hoses

Currently on sale are 3 main types of hoses. Knowing their features, each person can choose what will suit him. Diameters of union nuts or hose threads are standard on or inch. For non-standard 3/8 inches, you need an adapter, which can be purchased at the same store. At the ends, there are two nuts, as well as a variant of the nut and external thread.

The advantages of all modern hoses are their flexibility and sufficient strength, thanks to which the plates can be moved if necessary and not be afraid of accidental damage and accident.

  • rubber hose. Frequent and inexpensive products that are popular due to their availability, comparative stability and a service life of up to 10 years. They are made of vulcanized rubber, inside they are lined with cloth material for rigidity. Of the minuses of this variety, one can list lower stability and service life than other materials, the risks of acquiring poor rubber that can crack, and poor protection against severe damage caused by piercing and cutting objects.
  • rubber hose in a metal braid. The basis here is the same vulcanized rubber, but for increased resistance to sharp objects, metal is used that does not corrode. Also, like a simple rubber hose, this type withstands high temperatures up to 50 degrees Celsius (but does not like temperature changes). The main disadvantage is that outwardly it will not be possible to assess the condition of the rubber in the event of cracking or any other damage, which is why its use is not common in other countries.
  • bellows (or bellows) hose. It consists of durable metal plastic (sometimes there is a plastic shell on the outside, sometimes not). The most durable and flexible of the currently existing options, it is not afraid of temperature changes, damage and shock, it lasts up to 25 years. Perhaps the only minus is the high price.

IMPORTANT! specialists and representatives of gas organizations insistently recommend the use of bellows hoses because of their reliability, since this greatly reduces the risk of breakdowns and serious incidents related to the operation of gas equipment.

Hose Requirements:

  • The recommended hose length is 1.5 meters, longer options are possible, but no more than 4 meters.
  • No damage, holes, cracks, any defects
  • The same surface and diameter along the entire length, without bumps
  • Upon purchase and further use, the hose should not stretch, break or twist too much
  • During use, the hose must not touch hard and sharp corners, surfaces that are very hot and flammable.
  • The hose should be in a free state, be easily accessible for timely monitoring and replacement of obsolete products.
  • When buying, there should be a normal shelf life, which can be found in the quality certificate, which the seller must show.
  • The hose in the work should be a single product, that is, one-piece, not consisting of several parts.

Pipe connection

Steel pipe, of course, is reliable, but nevertheless it is an outdated, expensive and complex option for connecting a plate, which will require additional materials and equipment. In addition, it does not involve moving the plate, for example, during cleaning or rearrangement. However, in rare cases, it is necessary to use this method.

First of all, you need to make a pipe and give it the desired shape and size. Then thread at the ends to connect the couplings with nuts. If you have a welding machine and welding skills, you can weld a pipe from one or both edges using an American adapter sleeve. Or at both ends, having previously cut the threads, install couplings with which to screw them to the gas pipeline and to the plate joint.

How to connect a gas stove in the apartment: step-by-step steps

  • prepare everything you need, open all windows, if possible, enable forced ventilation, notify other people about the work in the room;
  • if you need to dismantle the old equipment, you must first close the valve, and try to set the burner on fire. If gas does not flow and it does not burn, the old hose should be disconnected from the stove and pipe with a gas or adjustable wrench;
  • if you need to replace the crane, due to deterioration or if it does not combine with new equipment, all actions must be carried out calmly and confidently. The new valve must be closed and, for ease of installation, remove the handle, and wrap the sealant on the external thread. Then remove the old tap, quickly clean the connection from the old sealant and fasten the new one quickly. There are pipes with an external thread, and a tap with an internal thread, then a plug is required. The fabric needs to be moistened well, since it is the wet material that stops the gas outlet. The valve plugged by it must be thoroughly cleaned and fresh sealant wound.

All work with the key must be done quickly, but carefully, without knocking on the pipe, which can cause a spark. After installing a new valve, a soap solution is applied with a brush and, if bubbles form on the surface, then there is depressurization and the gas leaks out. Then you have to unwind and wind the sealant more tightly.

IMPORTANT! the popular linen tow sealant is not used in the gas sector, as its properties are worse than other types of sealants.

Now, finally, you can install the hose. The general scheme is the same: wrap a sealant on the external thread, use adapters, if necessary, then fix the nuts on both sides of the connection with a key and the design is checked for leaks. In places of internal thread for sealing use paronite gaskets. When tightening the nuts, both on the hose and on the tap, reasonable moderation must be exercised. Too much applied force will damage the gasket and leakage will be broken if tightened loosely, gas will also come out.
