Where is the microphone in the laptop

All modern laptops must meet the high requirements of users and have a number of built-in components that allow you to use them wherever and whenever you want. Among these components are: built-in modems that work with most networks, touch screens, high-capacity batteries and, of course, all possible means for comfortable communication with other network users.

The design of almost all modern laptops has a built-in microphone that allows you to conduct a comfortable dialogue in instant messengers and social networks. Below is information about the location and configuration of the microphones of devices from various manufacturers.

How to find out where the microphone is in the laptop

In order to understand where the recording device is located in the design of the laptop, you first need to familiarize yourself with the instructions from the manufacturer.

Most of them practice the description of all the technical characteristics and built-in components of the laptop in the instructions and manuals that apply to the laptop computer itself. In addition, on special boxes marked by the manufacturer or equipment stores, there are small stickers with a list of specifications that describe all the technical characteristics of the device.

IMPORTANT! If you use a laptop purchased "with hands" or simply can not find the necessary information in the instructions, you can search for the necessary information on the official website of the company.

Most laptop models have a special marker icon that displays the location of the microphone on the laptop case.

The hole next to the marker icon is the outlet to the built-in sound recorder.

In addition to the variant shown in the picture, a similar hole can be located on any internal part of the case - from the panel located under the keyboard to the upper frame of the built-in screen.

Acer

For laptops from the manufacturer Acer, the microphone is located next to the built-in webcam. Most often, you can find a hole for the built-in sound recorder on the top frame of the screen, as shown in the picture under the number 2.

For older models, the microphone is located in the lower left corner of the case.

Asus

Most of the built-in microphones in the Asus laptop line are located on the inside of the case and are located directly next to the keyboard. In more modern models, the sound recorder is located above the keyboard, while in older models, the microphone is located in the lower left corner of the case.

Lenovo

Lenovo laptops are characterized by the location of the built-in microphone on the top frame of the laptop screen. You can notice them right next to the built-in webcam lens in the photo below.

IMPORTANT! Regardless of the model and manufacturer of the laptop, most modern built-in sound recorders are located directly next to the webcam lens and are often not indicated by a special marker icon.

Most often, you can find a hole-exit to the sound recorder in the left or lower right corner of the inner case, just below the keyboard.

If it was not possible to find the microphone, carefully examine the surface of the laptop case above the keyboard or examine the scope of the built-in LCD screen. It is in these parts that there is often a small hole in the built-in sound recorder.

How to set up and turn on the microphone on a laptop

Despite the abundance of manufacturers and the existence of completely different laptop models on the market, there is not much difference in setting up the built-in microphone. This is due primarily to the fact that most modern models work on the Windows operating system.

Of course, a number of manufacturers suggest using additional pre-installed software of their own production for more fine-tuning laptops. However, it does not make sense to consider all such existing programs, since information on the interface of such programs may cease to be relevant with the release of the next software update.

More useful information will be the description of the microphone setup process in the Windows operating system itself.

For windows 7, the most convenient and easiest way to configure are the following:

  1. In the lower right corner of the control panel we find the speaker icon.
  2. When you click on the icon with the right mouse button, select "Recording Devices".
  3. In the window that opens, we see all the connected recording devices.
  4. Select the microphone and click on it with the right mouse button.
  5. In the list that opens, select the line "Properties".
  6. In the lower part of the window that opens, we see the line "Device Usage".
  7. Select the "Use this device" item and click the "Apply" button.

Also, in the microphone properties window, you can check the relevance of the drivers used, adjust the sound recording levels and enable the noise reduction mode (for the Windows 8 and 10 operating system).

After you have completed all the above steps, a green checkmark will appear in the list of recording devices near the microphone icon. This means that the device is connected and recognized by the operating system. You can check the sound recording volume in the properties of the connected device, as well as change the recording volume by going to the "Levels" tab.

If the built-in microphone does not appear in the list of devices, you need to update the sound driver, and then do the steps described earlier.
